Meet the team: Q&A With Notitia Designer Yuri Chae

Based out of our Melbourne office, Notitia designer Yuri Chae is a versatile and dynamic creative who brings unique experience across multiple design disciplines, including branding, UI/UX, and graphic design.

With a Bachelor of Visual Communication Design and Product Design (Double Major) from South Korea, Yuri relocated to Australia to pursue new opportunities and challenges in the design industry.

At Notitia, Yuri collaborates closely with our clients to deliver tailored, user-centric solutions that enhance both functionality and user experience. Her ability to bridge the gap between intricate data and intuitive design makes her an invaluable asset to the Notitia team.

What is your role at Notitia?

As a designer at Notitia, I focus on creating cohesive branding and intuitive UI/UX designs.

My role involves balancing the aesthetic aspects of design with a seamless user experience. I often need to translate technical requirements into user-friendly designs.

For each client it means that I need to understand their needs and the user behaviour, to create designs that are both functional and look fantastic.

What types of projects have you worked on?

One of my favourite things about working at Notitia is having the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects:

  • WGHG: West Gippsland Healthcare Group (WGHG) needed wireframes for their dashboard designs that could simplify the presentation of health data. My work focused on creating a user-friendly interface that would support healthcare professionals in accessing critical information without any hassle.
  • Fyna Foods Australia: Fyna Foods, an iconic Australian confectionery company, required UX/UI designs for their dashboards. The challenge was to create a design that could handle the detailed data related to their extensive product lines while maintaining a user-friendly experience for their team.
  • Barwon Water: Barwon Water, a regional VIC water corporation, needed dashboards to present their extensive data in a clear and actionable way. My design aimed to make the complex information easily digestible, helping them manage resources more effectively.

What do you enjoy most about working with clients?

I enjoy the challenge of problem-solving and uncovering what clients truly need. The satisfaction of finding solutions that meet their expectations is the number one reason why I love what I do. Each project brings a new set of challenges, and it’s this variety that keeps me motivated.

What have been some of your biggest challenges in working in digital design and UX/UI?

One of the main challenges is adapting to the different industries we work with.

Each industry has its own terminology and background knowledge, so it’s crucial to quickly get up to speed. Another challenge is finding a balance between what the client wants and what is best from a UI/UX perspective.

For example, clients may want to display a lot of data on a single page, but from a UX standpoint, that might not be ideal. It’s about finding a middle ground that satisfies both the client’s needs and the principles of good design.

How does Notitia’s approach to design stand out?

At Notitia, we approach design through collaboration and adaptability. We don’t just create designs; we develop solutions that align with our clients’ business goals. This involves working closely with developers, data analysts, and stakeholders to ensure that the final product is cohesive and effective.

What has helped shape your career today?

My career has been shaped by the variety of design roles I’ve held across different industries including e-commerce, mobile network operations, and logistics platforms and now technology.

As a designer, my vision is to solve problems through design and make a better world:)

What can you do for clients that surprises them?

I often surprise clients by going beyond their initial requests. They might ask for something specific, but if I see a way to improve upon their idea, I’ll suggest it. This proactive approach not only adds value to the project but also often exceeds client expectations.
