Fyna Foods

Fyna Food is one of Australia’s oldest confectionery food manufacturers, having been in business since the 1940s. The company produces some of the country’s most recognisable brands, including childhood favourites Wizz Fizz, Fads, and Big Boss lollies, as well as Fyna Superior Licorice and premium chocolates under the Ballantyne and Pink Lady brands.

With more than 600 products in its range, Fyna Foods also contracts manufacturing for large and small customers, assisting with planning, development, and trials for new products. Their end-to-end service includes unit wrapping, finished product display, and bulk bagging, ensuring operations adhere to "world best practice" standards.

Leveraging data to become responsive to industry challenges & supply chain complexities

Fyna Foods faced the challenge of modernising their technology infrastructure and implementing organisation-wide use of data, to support their ongoing growth. As they expanded operations and product lines, they found their existing technology stack—based on outdated on-premise servers—was limiting their ability to extract meaningful operational insights.

Using data as a tool: Streamlined workflows & empowered employees

“The old systems were clunky, and data wasn’t accessible to the people who needed it most, requiring external expertise for support,” said Daniel Janka, Business Operations Manager, Fyna Foods Australia.

“It was old school in the sense that we had our own silos and needed an external IT team to come in and say, ‘here’s your data.’”

Challenges included:

• Limited operational visibility due to siloed data systems.
• Manual processes that consumed excessive time and resources.
• Heavy reliance on key personnel for managing outdated systems, creating operational risk.
• Increasing complexity in operations that demanded a scalable and secure solution.

Fyna Foods needed a solution to streamline processes, ensure compliance with cybersecurity and quality standards, and enable data-driven decision-making to remain competitive in the fast-paced FMCG industry.

Using data for accurate business decisions and supply chain goals

To address these challenges, Fyna Foods partnered with Notitia to leverage our strategic expertise and implement Qlik Cloud® Analytics (formally known as Qlik Sense SaaS), a leading cloud-based analytics platform.

The migration to Qlik Cloud® Analytics allowed Fyna Foods to move away from outdated on-premise infrastructure and create a centralised, scalable platform for their data analytics needs.

Operational transformation - leveraging data as an organisational tool

The migration to Qlik Cloud® Analytics (Qlik Sense SaaS) and the ability to use data as organisational tool has delivered significant benefits, positioning Fyna Foods to navigate the complexities of the FMCG industry with agility and efficiency.

Driving business outcomes organisation-wide with a unified data source

Fyna Foods has now unified their data sources into a single view, enabling transparency and real-time insights across departments.

The enhanced visibility and automation have allowed Fyna Foods to streamline operations, improve inventory management, and drive innovation.

Employees quickly adapted to the platform, leveraging its intuitive visualisation tools to identify operational bottlenecks, forecast demand accurately and ensure timely stock replenishment.

Monitoring cash flow & product movement: Precision insights for smarter forecasting and cost savings

"What we have been able to do is align our data with our lean manufacturing model and give people the right tools to do the job," Mr Janka said.

"The platform also sends out notifications to cut down on errors and prevent data duplication, keeping everyone on the same page.”

Thanks to Qlik’s dashboards, implemented with the help of Notitia, Fyna Foods can better monitor cash flow and product movement, with comparisons such as actual cocoa usage against forecasts.

Better equipped to navigate FMCG supply chain challenges

These capabilities are critical in addressing potential issues including cocoa shortages and assist in the management of supply chain complexities.

By consolidating data, the company also reduced report preparation time from a week to a day, giving employees more time to focus on analysis and strategic initiatives.

“The people on the floor are more empowered to make decisions because we feel more comfortable backing it up with data and the funds that need to be spent to do it,” Mr Janka said. “It’s giving us that confidence.”

Key outcomes include:

Improved decision-making
Real-time insights enabled the leadership team to make informed decisions about daily operations and strategic planning.

Operational efficiency & commercial success
Automated reporting reduced manual processes, saving time and increasing productivity. Data analysis is now aligned with Fyna Food’s manufacturing model.

Enhanced collaboration
Unified data access fostered communication and collaboration across teams.

Infrastructure cost savings
Transitioning to the cloud eliminated the need for expensive on-premise infrastructure.

Scalability
The solution’s flexibility supports Fyna Foods’ growth and innovation efforts.
