“One of the reasons that we chose Notitia was that they really aligned with our core values. A really important part of choosing a vendor, for us, was making sure that we had someone that we could work really well with and understand what we were trying to do."
Fyna Foods is one of Australia’s oldest confectionery food manufacturers, having been in business since 1940s, making some of the country’s most recognisable brands such as your childhood Wizz Fizz, Fads and Big Boss lollies, along with Fyna Superior Licorice and Ballantyne and Pink Lady chocolates.
Fyna Foods is one of Australia’s oldest confectionery food manufacturers, having been in business since the 1940s. The company produces some of the country’s most recognisable brands, including childhood favourites Wizz Fizz, Fads, and Big Boss lollies, as well as Fyna Superior Licorice and premium chocolates under the Ballantyne and Pink Lady brands.
With more than 600 products in its range, Fyna Foods also contracts manufacturing for large and small customers, assisting with planning, development, and trials for new products. Their end-to-end service includes unit wrapping, finished product display, and bulk bagging, ensuring operations adhere to "world best practice" standards.
Fyna Foods faced the challenge of modernising their technology infrastructure to support ongoing growth. As they expanded operations and product lines, they found their existing technology stack-based on outdated on-premise servers-was limiting their ability to extract meaningful operational insights.
“The old systems were clunky, and data wasn’t accessible to the people who needed it most, requiring external expertise for support,” said Daniel Janka, Business Operations Manager, Fyna Foods Australia.
“It was old school in the sense that we had our own silos and needed an external IT team to come in and say, ‘here’s your data.”
Challenges included:
• Limited operational visibility due to siloed data systems.
• Manual processes that consumed excessive time and resources.
• Heavy reliance on key personnel for managing outdated systems, creating operational risk.
• Increasing complexity in operations that demanded a scalable and secure solution.
Fyna Foods needed a solution to streamline processes, ensure compliance with cybersecurity and quality standards, and enable data-driven decision-making to remain competitive in the fast-paced FMCG industry.
To address these challenges, Fyna Foods partnered with Notitia to implement Qlik Cloud® Analytics, a leading cloud-based analytics platform. The migration to Qlik Sense SaaS allowed Fyna Foods to move away from outdated on-premise infrastructure and create a centralised, scalable platform for their data analytics needs.
Notitia provided comprehensive support, including:
• Vendor evaluation and pricing negotiations.
• System migration and integration of Qlik Sense SaaS into Fyna Foods’ operations.
• Implementation of tailored data pipelines to consolidate siloed data.
• Creation of self-service dashboards to empower employees at all levels.
• Ongoing support through the "Analytics as a Managed Service" model, offering technical quality assurance, dashboard customisation, and expert data analysis.
Using Qlik, Fyna Foods unified their data sources into a single view, enabling transparency and real-time insights across departments.
Employees quickly adapted to the platform, leveraging its intuitive visualisation tools to identify operational bottlenecks, forecast demand accurately and ensure timely stock replenishment.
"What we have been able to do is align our data with our lean manufacturing model and give people the right tools to do the job,"
"The platform also sends out notifications to cut down on errors and prevent data duplication, keeping everyone on the same page."
Daniel Janka
The migration to Qlik Sense SaaS delivered significant benefits, positioning Fyna Foods to navigate the complexities of the FMCG industry with agility and efficiency.
Key outcomes included:
• Improved decision-making: Real-time insights enabled the leadership team to make informed decisions about daily operations and strategic planning.
• Operational efficiency: Automated reporting reduced manual processes, saving time and increasing productivity.
• Enhanced collaboration: Unified data access fostered communication and collaboration across teams.
• Cost savings: Transitioning to the cloud eliminated the need for expensive on-premise infrastructure.
• Scalability: The solution’s flexibility supports Fyna Foods’ growth and innovation efforts.
Thanks to Qlik’s dashboards, Fyna Foods can monitor cash flow and product movement, comparing actual cocoa usage against forecasts. These capabilities are critical in addressing cocoa shortages and managing supply chain complexities. By consolidating data, the company reduced report preparation time from a week to a day, giving employees more time to focus on analysis and strategic initiatives.
“The people on the floor are more empowered to make decisions because we feel more comfortable backing it up with data and the funds that need to be spent to do it,” Mr Janka said. “It’s giving us that confidence.”
