Fyna Foods

Fyna Foods is one of Australia’s oldest confectionery food manufacturers, having been in business since 1940s, making some of the country’s most recognisable brands such as your childhood Wizz Fizz, Fads and Big Boss lollies, along with Fyna Superior Licorice and Ballantyne and Pink Lady chocolates.

With more than 600 products in their range, Fyna Foods confectionery manufacturing options are very extensive. They also contract manufacture for a range of customers, both large and small, and assist their clients in planning, development and trials for new products.

Their end-to-end service includes manufacturing, using various techniques, along with unit wrapping and finished product display and bulk bagging. Fyna Foods monitors the latest production techniques, with a view to always be a “world best practice” organisation.

Modernise and create operational processes

Fyna Foods, like many long-standing companies in traditional industries, faced the challenge of modernising their technology infrastructure to support ongoing growth. As they expanded their operations and product lines, they found their existing technology stack — primarily based on an on-premise server and outdated tools — was limiting their ability to extract meaningful operational insights.

This lack of visibility into their data was hindering data-driven decision-making, a necessity in today’s fast-paced FMCG market. Additionally, the company faced a significant reliance on key personnel for managing these systems, creating a risk of disruption if those individuals were unavailable. With the increasing complexity of their operations and a desire to reduce the administrative burden of managing on-premise infrastructure, Fyna Foods sought a solution that could streamline their processes while ensuring compliance with evolving cyber security and quality standards.

Despite their expertise in manufacturing, Fyna Foods lacked the in-house technological expertise to execute this transformation effectively, prompting them to seek external guidance on how best to upgrade their systems and leverage their data for competitive advantage.

Analytics platform to the cloud

To address these challenges, Fyna Foods turned to Notitia to implement a comprehensive cloud-based solution using Qlik Sense SaaS, a leading analytics platform recognised by the Gartner Magic Quadrant. This migration to the cloud allowed Fyna Foods to move away from their outdated, on-premise infrastructure and create a centralised, scalable platform for their data analytics needs.

Notitia’s role was pivotal, providing end-to-end support, from vendor selection and pricing negotiations to system migration and the implementation of tailored data pipelines. The solution involved the seamless integration of Qlik Sense SaaS into Fyna Foods’ existing operations, enabling the company to unify their data sources into a single view for greater transparency and real-time insights.

Notitia also provided ongoing support through their “Analytics as a Managed Service” offering. This service allowed Fyna Foods to access technical quality assurance, custom dashboards, and expert data analysis without needing to hire a full-time, in-house team. Notitia’s flexibility ensured that Fyna Foods could scale their data analytics activities as needed, while also providing training and support to enhance the internal team’s capabilities.

Substantial infrastructure cost savings

The migration to Qlik Sense SaaS has delivered significant benefits for Fyna Foods, positioning them to better navigate the complexities of the modern FMCG industry. With their new cloud-based analytics platform, the company now has access to real-time, data-driven insights that empower their leadership team to make informed decisions about everything from daily operations to long-term strategic planning.

This newfound visibility into their data has not only streamlined internal processes but has also provided the evidence and confidence needed to support their expansion into new markets and product lines. In addition to improved decision-making capabilities, the cloud migration has brought secondary benefits, including enhanced internal collaboration across teams and departments, remote access for a more flexible workforce, and the scalability needed to grow their operations efficiently. By reducing the time and effort previously spent on manual data management tasks, Fyna Foods can now focus more resources on innovation and growth. The migration has also resulted in substantial cost savings, particularly in terms of infrastructure, as they no longer need to maintain expensive on-premise servers.

These improvements have helped Fyna Foods stay competitive in an increasingly digital and data-driven market, setting the stage for continued success.
