Q&A: Jessica Molina Calabrese, Notitia’s Adelaide-based Data Analytics Consultant
Jessica Molina Calabrese, Notitia’s Adelaide-based Data Analytics Consultant, brings her background in computer and data engineering, along with her experience in on premise and cloud deployment and migration projects.
Working directly with Notitia’s clients, Jessica drives successful outcomes alongside her direct and warm approach, and solution-based thinking. After starting her career 10 years ago in the oil and gas industry, Jessica has honed her skills around the globe in Argentina, Boston and now Australia.
What do you do in your role as a data analyst at Notitia’s Adelaide office?
“Typically, our clients are organisations handling vast amounts of data from various sources,” Jessica says.
“My role as a data analyst is to help them extract value from this data, and give them deeper insights into what this means for their business and decision making.
“On a day to day basis I’m performing tasks that provide value to our clients such as data transformations, building optimised data models, creating reports and visualisations.”
What have been some of the highlights of your career as a data engineer?
“One of the most noteworthy aspects has been the creation of an interactive hologram system and my success in winning a competition that led me to travel to the United States with that project,” Jessica says.
“I have also developed an early detection system for cancerous cells and designed modular systems for large industries.
“At Notitia, I’ve also made significant contributions to the design and creation of numerous reports that provide valuable information to our clients, helping them to make informed decisions in an era where information has become an invaluable asset to industries.”
What do you enjoy most about working alongside clients?
Jessica says that through her consulting experience she has gained important skills that enable her to tailor data solutions to each clients’ unique needs.
“I've learnt how to drill down, interpret and understand each project with its specific requirements - this helps me to provide a more effective service to each client and their organisation, ” she says.
“What I like most about it is the opportunity to collaborate closely with our clients, to understand their challenges, and find solutions that drive their success.
“This direct interaction and the ability to make a difference in their operations is what truly motivates me.”
Explain some of the challenges involved in data projects?
I believe that all projects pose a challenge initially because they require stepping out of your comfort zone to enter a new development environment, Jessica says.
“Once the problem is fully understood and the requirements are taken into account, a viable solution can always be found.
Jessica says that some of her most rewarding work has been with reengineering projects - where optimisation is paramount.
“They challenge me to devise novel solutions to achieve outcomes, while optimising resources and processes,” she says.
“Clients are often surprised when simple solutions to complex problems can be found.
“Sometimes, it's all about understanding the dynamics of the business to provide solutions with a straightforward and optimal application that addresses modular issues, which can then be scaled up to the broader context.”
What are you looking forward to working with Notitia in 2024?
I'm thrilled to share that this year, I embarked on my journey into the field of quantum computing, and I couldn't be more excited about the incredible possibilities and challenges it holds. It's an exhilarating new chapter in my career!
