Driving Diversity in Tech

Diversity and inclusion - we walk the talk on these.

Not only do they make a better workplace and contribute to a fairer and more equitable society, but it’s also one of the ways that we deliver industry-leading results.

Our people have diverse backgrounds, experiences, and ways of thinking. This allows us to leverage a range of flexible skill sets. It also means that, as a team, we adapt swiftly to a challenge and we solve the right problems, efficiently and quickly, for our clients.

Hiring with diversity & inclusion in mind

We maintain gender parity across the company and hire across a far-reaching talented pool. This includes returning-to-the-workforce parents, veterans, skilled migrants and those transitioning from a different work background into a new tech career. We prioritise ability, values, and ambition over traditional qualifications.

What does this mean for Notitia? Many of our team members didn’t come from a typical “techy” career path (we have academics, scientists, a photographer and veteran) but they share a passion for solving problems and creating value for our clients.

We actively seek out individuals who demonstrate the drive to learn and the ability to think critically, rather than simply ticking boxes on paper.

Why Diversity Matters

The tech industry is experiencing a surge in demand for skilled workers, with 650,000 new roles needed by 2030, according to the Tech Council of Australia (TCA).

Attracting talent from diverse backgrounds isn’t just the right thing to do – it’s essential for meeting this demand.

Research from Dr. Juliet Bourke, Professor of Practice at UNSW Sydney, has shown that diversity in thinking and inclusive leadership reduces group think and increases innovation potential. Dr. Bourke’s findings highlight that diversity fuels better decision-making and builds trust within teams, making it easier to implement changes and drive success.

This is something we see first-hand at Notitia. Our diverse team allows us to tackle problems from multiple perspectives, ensuring we create innovative solutions for our clients.

How Notitia Drives Inclusion

We’ve made diversity and inclusion foundational to our workplace culture. Here are some of the key initiatives that keep our team engaged, motivated, and delivering outstanding results for our clients:

  • Flexible Work Arrangements: We offer part-time, remote, and hybrid work options, allowing employees to balance their careers with personal commitments, such as family, health and military commitments or commeration. Our flexible policies extend across all levels of the company, from graduates to directors.
  • Career Change Opportunities: Not everyone on our team comes from a STEM background, and that’s what makes us stronger. We offer paid roles to those transitioning from non-technical fields, including veterans, bringing in a rich variety of skills and perspectives.
  • Visa Sponsorship: To ensure we have access to the best talent, we sponsor visas for highly skilled individuals from around the globe. This allows us to build a team of experts while also contributing to the diversity of the tech workforce in Australia.
  • Generous Parental Leave: Our team members can take up to six months of paid parental leave, with additional paid leave available for return-to-work plans. We know that supporting our employees during significant life events builds loyalty and helps us retain top talent.

The Benefits of Diversity for Our Clients

Our approach to diversity and inclusion isn’t just about creating a positive workplace – it’s also about delivering better outcomes for our clients. By assembling a team with a range of perspectives, we’re able to think creatively and solve complex problems more effectively. This has been a key driver of our success.

Diversity also allows us to better understand and relate to our clients, many of whom come from diverse industries and backgrounds. We don’t apply a one-size-fits-all solution; instead, we work flexibly to meet our clients’ unique needs.

Continuous Improvement

We know that creating an inclusive workplace isn’t something we can declare as “done.” At Notitia, we view it as an ongoing journey. Our diversity initiatives are regularly reviewed and updated to ensure we’re providing the best environment for our people to thrive.

Our small, highly skilled team drives huge results for our clients. We value our people, invest in their development, and give them the space to be themselves. In turn, they bring their best selves to work every day, creating high-quality outcomes for our clients.
